There are hotel rooms available within a few miles of our location that have better rates than anything we have been able to negotiate with the area chains.  Below are some hotels, & inns with recent rates we've seen:

Beacon Inn - $140/night, roughly a 12 minute walk – under a mile away
(They have a second location, at 1750 Beacon St., that's ~3 miles away.)

Best Western - $109/night, 2.5 miles away. Be sure to request the Beyond IQ rate.

Alternatively, we recommend that you use Hotwire or Expedia or whichever resource you use most frequently.  The following sites have shown availability at the rates below:

Hotwire - $50/night - “Waltham – Newton” - 6.1 – 7.6 miles away

NOTE: The Hyatt Regency, while one of the closest hotels (with a pool), is across the B.U. Bridge, which is under construction. Currently, it is open during the days (5am – 9pm), but we don't know if that will change. The alternate path is still fairly short, at a bit over 2 miles – it's just not necessarily as close as it looks.
